Arehucas – The Rum Distillery
Destilerías Arehucas SA, the canarian rum distillery based in Arucas, Gran Canaria, was founded by Mr Alfonso Gurié Álvarez on the 9th August 1884, who reaped for the first time from his own cane sugar harvest in February 1885.
The distillery focuses on the production of a wide range of liquors, the most renowned of which is its Ron Arehucas, considered to be the best Spanish rum. There are varieties of this rum that have excelled above all others. The white one “Carta Blanca” and the golden one “Carta Oro” are the most outstanding brands, which have been leading the sales market in the archipelago for over 50 years.
From the beginning, the rum was widely accepted. It received countless awards for its quality, which was a determining factor in being chosen as the “Official Provider of The Royal Family” by Queen Maria Christina de Habsburgo in 1892. However, it was not until 1940 when its rum became extremely popular.
Presently, it turns over 30€ million, and exports up to 54,000 litres abroad, including China since 2008 and the United States since 2011. Here’s the video for you to watch:
